Introduction:

Sessile joyweed is a perrinial herb,abundantly found in southeast Asian countries.This plant is a non-toxic,edible plant,can  be used as a food for both animals and human.Sessile joyweed has diuretic,cooling,tonic and laxative properties,hence used as a medicinal herb.

Description:


Sessile joyweed is a perennial plant,stems
spread over the ground in a prostrate
manner,roots are often formed at nodes.Usually found at wet and damp spots.The root,stem,leaves,flowers of this plant does not have any characteristic odour or taste.Leaves are eliiptical in shape.stems are cylindrical and bears white coloured flowers.It flowers from December until march.
In south India,srilanka this plant is widely used as a vegetable(leaves and tender shoots).


As sessile joyweed is a rich source of carotene,used to treat hairloss problems.

This plant is good remedy for eyesight related problems.

Usually it grows wild,but it can also be grown in small pots.since this plant shows vigorous growth and doesn't require much care it can be grown easily in lawn area at home.


Uses of sessile joyweed:

Some uses of sessile joyweed are listed below,

  • Finely chopped leaves along with its young shoots are used as poultry feed.
  • In the preparation of hair oil and in Kajal(coal).
  • In the treatment of dysuria and Heamorrhoids.
  • Shoot of the Sessile joyweed is used to treat verility.
  • Consuming the leaves of sessile joyweed stir stirfry with pepper,cumin powder and salt will help to reduce weight.
  • Applying  the fresh paste of these leaves can reduce the inflammation of eyes
  • Soup prepared from the leaves of sessile joyweed along with the stem will increase the liver healt.
  • The dicaction made by the leaves of sessile joyweed will help to get rid of the fever.
  • Since the regular consumption of this plant can increase breast milk and can effectively reduces the possibilities of abortion,this plant is very useful for pregnant women

This plant can also be as a vegetable also.Delicious dishes can be prepared by this plant such as salad,pulav,stirfry,chutney,gram stirfry.
